January 2009 Update

Happy New Year to everyone from the Class of 1978 at Barnstable High School! The class website begins its 6th year of operation in 2009. For those that have recently chimed in and made themselves known we say "Welcome!". However, dont have high expectations because this is not a professional website operation and in fact may be offensive to people who actually know how to use a computer. Since the BHS 1978 website started back in 2004 our mission statement has been this Vince Vaughn line from the 2003 blockbuster movie "Old School":

Beanie: Legally speaking there will be a loose affiliation with the school. But, we will give nothing back to the academic community. As well as provide no public service of any kind. This much I promise you.

Updates:
1. First of all we have a lot of new people that have been found through various means in recent months. If any of you want to look back into the website archives start here at the original site: http://www.geocities.com/barnstable1978/

All of the newer updates and pictures are at this site: http://bhs1978.blogspot.com/

2. At last check we have over 30 alums that have joined the group called "Barnstable High Class of 1978" on Facebook. If you havent signed up for Facebook you might find it to be very interesting. A recent article in the Boston Globe stated that reunions are becoming obsolete since people stay so close thru services like Facebook. When you get on there you find people you havent had contact with in 30 years and all of a sudden you know what they had for breakfast, that their cat Miffy is sick and you see a slideshow of their trip to the supermarket. Good times. Sign up everyone!!!!

3. The final stats for the website in 2008 can only be described as "glorious". What a year it was. The proverbial icing on the cake was the posting of the pictures from the 30th Reunion in November. When those were uploaded the website recorded record hits every day for over a week. Another testament to the beautiful girls in our class that graced the pictorial too. Some more interesting stats are that the BHS 1978 site had visits from 16 different countries around the globe in 2008. There was one hit from Fiji so maybe one of our classmates is living large over there. The one hit from Pakistan makes you wonder if someone from the group has joined forces with the Taliban. The scary part is if the FBI asked questions you could probably name 50 guys from the class and a few teachers that would be suspects. From the USA we had hits from 30 different states so that data suggests the grads have literally scattered all over the country. When the prison systems in Massachusetts install inmate WiFi we expect a real surge in hits as well.

4. In 2008 we had two BHS 1978 Website sponsored get togethers. The Hyannis Pub Crawl in July only attracted three 78 grads along with about 12 randoms from other classes. The 30th Reunion get together at the Tiki Port in November unofficially had 30 BHS 78 grads and a small number of randoms that were mounted on bar stools in the Tiki Lounge. So that is some real positive momentum in attendance that we hope carries forward into 2009. Although you could probably go into any Hyannis bar on any given night and find a good number of our classmates sipping libations. And now that marijuana laws in Massachusetts have been relaxed our classmates can smoke the Devil's Lettuce in public. Sweet.
2008 Wrap Up Part Deux to follow in a few days..........
